Import Container De-consolidation

Port-to-warehouse handling and sorted outbound pallets for a trade importer.

An importer needed containers de-stuffed by sales channel within a tight customs window.

Challenge

Previous handlers mixed sales channels on pallets, causing pick errors when outbound orders did not match physical stock.

Road transport was sometimes booked before customs release was confirmed, increasing demurrage and port storage risk.

Each container arrival triggered a full re-quote from scratch, delaying the first customer delivery.

Approach

We coordinated with the customer's broker for release timing before allocating de-stuff labour at Palmers Road.

Each channel received colour-coded labels and separate staging lanes during de-stuff.

Outbound linehaul and local delivery were quoted as one schedule tied to actual pallet counts after de-stuff, not assumptions from the container manifest alone.

Results

Channel mix-ups stopped for that customer. Average days from customs release to first outbound movement shortened.

Transport and warehouse scheduling became stable across consecutive containers.
